The BIA is the authoritative voice of UK bioscience. Over 300 members belong to the Association, across two primary membership categories:

Corporate Membership
Corporate membership of the BIA is open to companies, actively engaged in the research, dvelopment, manuafacturing, marketing or sale of:

i. products made wholly or partly using biotechnology or bioscience
ii. processes or equipment used in their production or application
iii. products covering genomics, informatics and molecular moulding

Membership fees are based on the number of full time equivalent UK employees, including full time equivalents for part time staff.

Only Corporate members have the right to vote for the election of members to the BIA Board. All members have the right to participate in the expert committees.

Associate Membership
Associate membership of the Association is open to profit-making organisations providing services to Corporate Members or to companies which would qualify for Corporate membership of the Association.

Also included in this category, and qualifying for special rates, irrespective of headcount, are: Universities and their affiliated departments (including technology transfer offices and research institutes); Affiliated societies (government-funded regional development agencies and regional biotechnology organisations, affiliated associations and societies); Overseas companies or individuals who have no operational presence in the UK.
