BIA and ABPI response to Labour's Animal Welfare Plan

The BIA and the ABPI have responded to the Labour Party's draft plan for animal welfare

In our submission, we responded to each of the Labour Party's policy suggestions for animal research and highlighted:

  • As members of the Concordat on Openness on Animal Research, we are proud that the UK has one of the highest standards of animal research
  • Animal research helps scientists better understand diseases and has led to many advances in the treatment of debilitating and life-threatening diseases
  • The UK has some of the highest regulatory standards for animal research globally, which promote high standards of welfare
  • Labour policy should continue to permit the use of animals in research within the current regulatory framework

The BIA will continue to engage with the Labour Party as its animal research policies are developed further.
