BBSRC-STFC facility access funding for bioscience partnerships opportunity

The BBSRC-STFC facility access funding for bioscience partnerships round two is a £1.1 million project aimed at supporting bioscience business-academic partnerships to solve industrially relevant challenges using STFC facilities. The focus of the programme is to assist in accelerating the development of early-stage products or services requiring further research and innovation.

The programme supports access to advanced analytical technologies and expertise at STFC’s large-scale facilities in the UK, such as at Harwell and Daresbury. The facilities have the capability for neutron, x-ray and laser-based research as well as high-performance and scientific computing. There is also the opportunity to utilise the deep underground science facility at the Boulby Underground Laboratory.

The Expression of Interest (EOI) stage of the application process requires only a submission of a ‘challenge statement’ that describes a problem which is hindering the development of a product or service. STFC will then evaluate whether this can be solved using one of the available facilities. An academic partner is not required at EOI stage, but you are encouraged to seek one as early on in the process as possible. If invited to the full proposal stage, a workplan will be developed in collaboration with STFC.

Projects can be undertaken over a 12-month period and are expected to be between £10,000 and £100,000. A company contribution, based on facility costs and dependent on company size, is required.

The deadline for submitting an expression of interest is Tuesday 31 October 2023 at 4 pm. Please feel free to contact: [email protected] with any queries.
