The Francis Crick Institution is holding a week-long “Innovation Challenge” on 22 – 29 July 2022. Aimed at early career scientists interested in entrepreneurship, this could be a good opportunity for MSc/PhD students/Postdocs at the universities you are involved with so please do spread the word if of interest!

The Crick Science Entrepreneur Network (CSEN) and the Crick Translation team are co-organising a UK-wide hackathon style event on Friday 22- Friday 29 July 2022. The Innovation Challenge is aimed at early career scientists (MSc, PhD, Postdoctoral researchers or other scientific staff) based in the UK who are curious about entrepreneurship. You don’t need to be set on entrepreneurship, and you don’t need to have an idea, team or product to apply – just your curiosity and openness to new ways of thinking.

Participants will form teams and come up with innovative solutions in one of four challenge areas. There will be an opportunity for participants to present their business proposals to a panel of industry experts and investors.

The four challenge areas:

  • Biotech outside medicine
  • Healthy Ageing
  • Laboratory Innovation
  • Data-driven health

Why join?

  • Get Inspired to use your skills of problem solving to ideate solutions within or outside your field of work
  • Connect with scientists with a common interest in entrepreneurship across areas of expertise and scientific background
  • Opportunity for blue skies thinking with real-time feedback from challenge area experts/ founders/ investors.
  • Platform to learn about entrepreneurship through our workshops on team formation, idea generation, science translation, how to pitch, etc.
