Jodie Albutt
Jodie Albutt is VP of Intellectual Property at Quell Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical cell therapy company developing treatments for a range of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. She has over 21 years’ experience working in IP, with over 7 years inhouse experience specialising in cell and gene therapies. Jodie previously worked at The Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult as their Head of IP and qualified as a European and UK patent attorney at Dehns where she worked for 14 years. She holds a PhD in molecular biology and is Vice Chair of the Intellectual Property Advisory Committee at the Bioindustry Association. In addition to dealing with the usual aspects of IP, including patent drafting, prosecution, FTO, and contentious matters, Jodie has significant experience navigating diligence proceedings associated with collaborations, partnerships, investments and in-licensing IP.
Sharon Brownlow
Sharon became Chief Business Officer at the Cell & Gene Therapy Catapult in 2023. CGT Catapult is a centre of excellence in innovation, with the core purpose of building a world-leading cell and gene therapy sector in the UK as a key part of a global industry. Supported by Innovate UK, the Catapult’s mission is to drive the growth of the industry by helping cell and gene therapy organisations across the world translate early stage research into commercially viable and investable therapies. Following her postdoctoral research in biophysics, her career in the private sector began with various technology sales roles before becoming UK sales and marketing manager for Applikon Biotechnology (now Getinge). Her move into the more specialist field of cell and gene therapy started with an international gene therapy CDMO, before taking her first senior commercial role at the CGT Catapult in 2017.
Lucy Crabtree
Dr. Lucinda Crabtree currently serves as CFO at Autolus. Lucinda has overseen Autolus’ public offerings of American Depositary Shares in 2020, 2021 and 2022 and was also a key contributor in closing the Blackstone transaction in November 2021. Prior to her time at Autolus, Lucinda’s broad experience includes roles on the buy and the sell side, including as a senior investment analyst and in specialist sales. In her roles she has had experience analyzing and monitoring public and private healthcare companies and has also served as a board observer for several private healthcare companies during her buyside role. Firms she has worked at include Woodford Investment Management, Panmure Gordon, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan (having originally joined Bear Stearns) and Jefferies. Lucinda has also held roles at Grunenthal Group and AstraZeneca. Lucinda holds a first-class Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Pharmacology from University College London and a PhD in Pharmacology from University College London
Anji Miller
Anji is a TT professional with more than 19 years’ experience of working with early-stage translational research. Anji has extensive experience of IP and contract management, licensing, business development of healthcare technologies, and development of knowledge transfer policies. Her current role at LifeArc involves working with academic and charitable establishments to identify, cultivate, fund, and commercialise early-stage healthcare technologies, focusing on rare diseases and the advanced therapies. A proponent for professional advancement in STEM careers, Anji is active in many initiatives missioned to address the current UK skills gap and training shortage. These include leadership of the LifeArc-AUTM TT Training Fellowship and LifeArc TTO Fellowship programmes, designed to train and assist scientists to become TT professionals; directing LifeArc’s translational placement and training programmes, and working with external partners to improve STEM learning and development in education. As the Skills Lead for the recently launched Innovation Hubs for Gene Therapies, Anji works with the Innovation Hubs to address the identified skills needs in the advanced therapy sector. An advocate of equality diversity and Inclusion, Anji cofounded Global Equality, Diversity and Equality in Technology Transfer (GEDITT), an initiative missioned to raise awareness and promote EDI in the TT sector. Anji holds an M.Sc. in Human Molecular Genetics and Ph.D in Cancer Genetics from Imperial College, and M.Sc. and Certificate in IP Law from QMUL. She is a certified project manager, Registered Technology Transfer Professional and Certified Licensing Professional. Anji is a board of AUTM, The Alliance of Technology Transfer Practitioners (ATTP), ASTP, Certified Licensing Professionals (CLP), and is a member of the BioIndustry Association (BIA) Cell & Gene Therapy Advisory Committee, and the AUTM Equity, Diversity & Inclusivity Committee.
Mary Sweny
Mary has over 20 years’ experience working on some of the most prestigious brands in academic publishing, including Europa Publications, Routledge, Taylor & Francis, BioMed Central and Springer. She was previously Head of Marketing, Digital & Operations at Springer Nature. Mary has led partnerships and business development for Researcher since 2019, now focussing her efforts on developing our content solutions for our Life Sciences clients.
