BIA responds to publication of Rare Disease framework

Steve Bates OBE, Chief Executive of the BioIndustry Association (BIA) said: “We are very encouraged by the publication of the Rare Disease Framework and in particular its focus on ensuring patient access to treatments. Science continues to advance and to deliver new treatments for rare diseases where no treatment has been available before. Ensuring appraisal processes are ready to deal with the next generation of treatments will be vital. In our recent report, A Rare Chance for Reform, the BIA Rare Disease Industry Group set out its proposals for change in the access landscape. We look forward to working with all four UK nations as they develop their action plans to ensure that patients can access the remarkable medicines being developed by the UK biotech sector."
