Funding available - Biomedical Catalyst industry-led R&D

The latest Innovate UK Biomedical Catalyst industry led R&D funding competition is open! The deadline for your chance to secure funding and accelerate your health innovation is Wednesday 10 December 2025 11:00.

UK registered micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) can apply for a share of up to £25 million for projects to develop innovative solutions to address health and healthcare challenges.

Your proposal can focus on:

  • Prevention and management: disease prevention, proactive management of health and chronic conditions
  • Detection and diagnosis: earlier/better detection, diagnostics, biomarkers
  • Treatment and therapeutics: tailored treatments, potential cures, advanced therapies
  • Healthcare delivery and digital health: transforming healthcare delivery, digital health technologies, consumer-focused self-care

Types of activities supported are:

  • Early-stage R&D: laboratory evaluation, in vitro and in vivo models, proof of concept or safety
  • Product development: prototyping, production exploration, product development planning
  • Clinical evaluation: demonstration of safety and efficacy, including phase 1/2 clinical trials, clinical utility and effectiveness
  • Regulatory and intellectual property (IP) support: regulatory planning, IP protection

The Biomedical Catalyst supports UK SMEs in the health and life sciences sector to test, develop and accelerate innovative health and care solutions, including therapeutics, medical devices, and digital health. By providing support at every stage, the programme is helping UK innovators start, grow, scale and stay in the UK.

There are two strands: small projects of up to £500,000 grant funding and large projects, over £500,000 grant funding. More information on both can be found here.
