About Health Innovation Research Alliance Northern Ireland (HIRANI)

The Health Innovation Research Alliance Northern Ireland (HIRANI) aim is to strengthen the Life & Health Sciences ecosystem with a focus on promoting Life and Health sciences capabilities in Northern Ireland which employs >8000 people and £1.1B GVA. The cluster comprises a diverse talent and asset pool across IV diagnostics, med-tech/sensors, medical devices and pharmaceutical materials, analytics and digital health companies. HIRAN’s mission is to better connect this vibrant Health and Life sciences cluster across academic-business-clinic-policy to access investment, talent and knowledge to grow and commercialise innovation, as Northern Ireland adapts to its unique position post-EU exit with dual access to both UK and EU markets In 2021, a £1B infrastructure investment across Northern Ireland in multiple centres of excellence for connected health, cognitive analytics, clinical trials, advanced manufacturing and augmented reality, mean there is a focus on cutting-edge bio-facilities available to integrate academic, commercial and clinical knowledge and endeavours, to harness new opportunities in the H&LS space, connecting with the well-developed cyber ecosystem.
