MND Scotland at a glance
MND Scotland is the leading charity in Scotland providing care and support to people affected by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), as well as funding vital research into finding a cure.
About MND Scotland
Company Description (Long) MND Scotland was founded in 1981 and is the leading charity in Scotland providing care, support and practical assistance to people affected by Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and funds research into finding a cure.
MND is a rapidly progressing terminal illness, which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. This may cause someone to lose the ability to walk, talk, eat, drink or breathe unaided. There is currently no cure or effective treatment for MND and the average life expectancy from diagnosis is just 18 months. About 1 in 300 people will develop MND during their lifetime – currently there are around 400 people in Scotland currently living with MND.
MND Scotland provides vital services for people in Scotland affected by MND, including Grants, Counselling, Benefits Advice and Advocacy. We campaign and raise awareness to help improve the lives of people affected by MND.
We invest millions of pounds into ground-breaking MND research in Scotland and the rest of the UK, including an innovative clinical trial testing treatments to slow the progression of the disease. Our research investment is aimed at 1) finding a cure, 2) understanding how the care and support of people living with MND can be improved, 3) provide hope for a world without MND.
