Engineering Biology Trade Mission to Japan
UK engineering biology companies are invited to apply for a UK Government-backed trade mission to Japan in October 2025 (3-11 Oct). The mission includes participation in BioJapan, Asia’s largest biotech partnering event, and offers a valuable opportunity to explore one of the world’s fastest-growing bioeconomy markets, targeted to reach $650 billion by 2030.
Two parallel application routes are available:

Apply before 23:59 on Friday 25 July 2025.
Successful applicants will benefit from:
- Attendance at BioJapan 2025, with access to partnering, exhibition, and networking
- In-market briefings and sector insights from Japanese stakeholders
- Introductions to potential partners, customers, and collaborators
- Support from UK Government and Innovate UK representatives throughout
Applications are open to companies working in:
- Analytical tools
- Automation and robotics
- Bioinformatics, data, AI, and supercomputing
- Biological materials, reagents, and feedstocks
- Nucleotide/protein synthesis and sequencing
A follow-on funding opportunity will also be available later in 2025 through Innovate UK’s Global Explorers Programme, supporting feasibility studies to test commercial potential in Japan. Companies not selected for the mission will remain eligible to apply.
