New animation explains how the charity, public and industry sectors help make research happen

Today, the UK BioIndustry Association (BIA), in collaboration with partners across the research ecosystem, has launched a new animation explaining how, together, the charity, public and industry sectors help make research happen in the UK.

We know there is limited understanding outside of the medical research world about the vital roles the three sectors play to ensure the UK remains an international research powerhouse.

To address this, the BIA worked with charity, public and industry partners to create a short animation that brings to life the different ways we all help research ideas to flourish into solutions that save and improve lives.

Dr Martin Turner, BIA's Head of Policy and Public Affairs said: “The UK’s strength in life sciences lies in the diversity of research funders and organisations that make up the ecosystem. With a record £4.5 billion raised by life science SMEs in 2021, smaller companies are not only the engines of innovation that turn academic discoveries into new treatments for patients but also the route through which global capital is channelled into UK research projects, jobs and ultimately better care for NHS patients.”

Making Research Happen

We partnered with the Association of Medical Research Charities, National Institute for Health Research, UK Research and Innovation, the Medical Research Council and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry to produce the animation.

Our plan is to share this animation widely, especially across the policy and research community, to improve awareness and encourage support for and collaboration with industry/public funders and the charity and public/industry sectors.
