This talk will provide an overview of the decisions and drivers in the process of moving from an initial disease hypothesis through to treating the patient. By following the path a potential drug navigates, it will highlight some of the roles played by academia, the pharmaceutical industry, and all players in between, as well as identifying the key decision points and drivers behind the progression, be they scientific, financial, or societal.
