Launch of Industry Student Support Network

Connecting Cambridge talent with the biotechnology industry: The University of Cambridge Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Industry Student Support Network (ISSN) has been established to strengthen connections between our students, alumni and industry, creating opportunities for students to learn directly from professionals across chemical engineering, biotechnology and related sectors, while enabling organisations to engage with emerging talent. As a valued member of our Industry Student Support Network (ISSN), the BioIndustry Association (BIA) plays an important role in helping connect our students with the wider biotechnology and life sciences community. We are therefore delighted to extend a special invitation to BIA member representatives to join us for the ISSN Launch Event. Find out more about the ISSN on https://www.ceb.cam.ac.uk/research/student-network Registration deadline 16 October 2026

Our Department brings together fundamental science, engineering and mathematics to address major challenges in areas such as healthcare and sustainability. We are keen to help our students understand how this multidisciplinary knowledge translates into careers, innovation and impact across the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.

Through the ISSN, we hope to build a vibrant community in which industry professionals can share their experiences, offer career insights, foster connections and help students explore the diverse opportunities available and benefit from access to talent in the process.

Whether you work in research and development, biomanufacturing, healthcare, business development, entrepreneurship or another area of the life sciences ecosystem, your perspectives and experiences can make a valuable difference to our students.

The launch event will include:

1. An introduction to the Industry Student Support Network and its ambitions.

2. Perspectives from the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the UK BioIndustry Association (BIA) on developments and opportunities across chemical engineering and biotechnology.

3. Insights into career pathways and the evolving relationship between academia and industry.

4. Dedicated networking and discussion opportunities for department members (students and academics) and industry representatives.

We would be delighted to welcome you to this milestone event  to meet our department members, share your professional journey, discover emerging talent and explore opportunities for future engagement and collaboration with the University as we look forward to strengthening the connections between Cambridge and the wider biotechnology industry.
