Cancer immunotherapy-induced CRS patent granted in South Korea
Poolbeg Pharma, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company with a core focus on transforming the cancer immunotherapy field, announces that a South Korean patent relating to POLB 001 has been formally granted. The patent, entitled "Medicinal products and methods for the alleviation of cancer immunotherapy-associated cytokine release syndrome", provides protection for POLB 001 and the use of any p38 MAP kinase inhibitor for the prevention of cancer immunotherapy-associated Cytokine Release Syndrome ("CRS") in South Korea with a default expiry of 2044.
POLB 001 is a potent and selective p38 MAP kinase inhibitor being developed as a potential preventative treatment for cancer immunotherapy-associated CRS. CRS is a recognised and potentially serious complication associated with a range of cancer immunotherapies and represents a significant unmet medical need.
The South Korean patent grant further strengthens Poolbeg's growing international intellectual property portfolio for POLB 001, particularly in the strategically important area of cancer immunotherapy-associated CRS. Poolbeg has continued to expand its patent estate around POLB 001 through granted patents, including Europe, Canada and Australia, and patent applications covering multiple therapeutic applications and territories. Developing a robust global intellectual property portfolio remains a key priority for the Company, enhancing POLB 001's value and attractiveness to prospective pharmaceutical partners.
Jeremy Skillington, PhD, Chief Executive Officer of Poolbeg Pharma, said:
This latest patent grant for South Korea adds to our growing international cancer immunotherapy-associated CRS patent estate, enhancing POLB 001's attractiveness to prospective partners, and reflects the continued momentum we are generating across the programme.
