LinkGevity partners with NHS innovation arm to advance Anti-Necrotic™ therapy towards the clinic
LinkGevity is working with Health Innovation East, the NHS innovation arm for the East of England, to advance the clinical pathway for its first-in-class Anti-Necrotic™ therapeutic approach.
The collaboration represents an important step in translating LinkGevity’s research towards clinical application, initially focusing on kidney disease and a potential future NHS clinical trial.
LinkGevity’s approach builds on the Blueprint Theory of Ageing, developed by co-founder and CEO Dr Carina Kern together with leading scientists and clinicians including Professor Justin Stebbing and Professor Joseph V Bonventre of Harvard Medical School, both of whom serve on LinkGevity’s Board of Advisors.
The company’s lead candidate, LINK-001, is designed to target necrosis - uncontrolled cell death - that drives tissue degeneration. Dr Kern, Professor Justin Stebbing and Professor Joseph Bonventre have also collaborated on a recent publication in Nature's Oncogene examining necrosis as a potential therapeutic target in age-related disease and biological decline.
Working with Health Innovation East, LinkGevity is now exploring the translational and regulatory pathway for LINK-001, including potential hospital partnerships and a future clinical trial.
The potential significance of the approach has attracted international clinical interest. Professor Kianoush Kashani of Mayo Clinic, an expert in nephrology and critical care, told the Cambridge Independent: “If successful in clinic, a drug to block necrosis would be a medical breakthrough.”
For co-founders Dr Carina Kern and Serena Kern-Libera, the collaboration marks an important step towards translating LinkGevity’s research into a potential new therapeutic approach for patients.
