Cathy Tralau-Stewart discusses strengthening UK therapeutic translation in Drug Discovery World

The Milner Therapeutics Institute are delighted that its Executive Director, Professor Cathy Tralau-Stewart, has continued her thought leadership work with Drug Discovery World, with a timely article on “The role of universities and industry in driving translation of therapeutics: the need for a new UK approach”. This follows Cathy’s involvement as a keynote speaker and panellist at the Drug Discovery World Symposium in November.

In the piece, Cathy highlights how the translational pathway has evolved dramatically over the past two decades, and why the UK now needs a stronger, more connected approach to support the journey from discovery to patient impact – particularly across the early-stage “valleys of death” where funding, infrastructure and expertise can be hardest to access.

Cathy also reinforces the urgent opportunity for the UK to strengthen therapeutic asset creation in universities, build supportive innovation ecosystems, and accelerate the development of scalable start-ups and partnerships with industry. These key themes encompass what we do at the Milner Therapeutics Institute by connecting academia and industry, supporting entrepreneurial talent, and enabling the next generation of therapeutic innovation.
