BIA Webinar: The new Government: what does it mean for innovative life sciences?

At the end of a summer-long Conservative Party leadership contest, the announcement of the new Prime Minster on 5 September heralds a major shake-up in ministerial ranks and a new set of policies to address the challenges facing the country.
To explore what all this means for our industry, we are holding a webinar on Thursday 22 September 1230-1330 where Nicky Edwards will be joined by a panel of guests to discuss the new government, its people and policies and their effect on biotech.

What does your role at BIA involve?
As Director of External Affairs, Nicky is responsible for enhancing the BIA’s influence by managing relationships with government, parliament, regulators, policymakers and industry bodies. She leads a team which works across policy, public affairs and regulatory affairs and coordinates the community of expert members engaged in the Association’s advisory committees and groups, as well as supporting members who represent us in government/industry forums such as the Life Sciences Council.
Previous experience & achievements
Before joining the BIA in 2018, Nicky gained extensive experience of delivering external affairs strategies for national organisations, including more than a decade of leading on policy and public affairs for businesses and membership bodies in the financial and professional services sector. For five years she served as a member of the Speaker’s Advisory Council on Public Engagement working to make Parliament more open and accessible.

Lisa Timothy
Lisa Timothy is a corporate affairs and public policy leader with nearly twenty years’ experience, gained both in-house and in agency. As the Director of External Affairs for Takeda in the UK and Ireland, Lisa leads public affairs, communications and patient advocacy and is member of the UK and Ireland Senior Leadership Team. Lisa was previously at MSD where she was Director of Policy, Communications and Government Relations and, before that, held several positions of increasing seniority at Lexington Communications. Lisa graduated with a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Sheffield.
Audrey Yvernault
Audrey is responsible for GSK’s UK political relationships and engagement, in particular leading on the life sciences agenda, as well as global areas of policy led out of the UK such as tax. She engages widely across government and supports GSK senior leaders’ engagement, and is co-chair of the Life Science Council’s Business Environment Board. She joined GSK in 2017 from the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry where she was Head of Government Affairs. In her time at the ABPI she helped shape the Life Sciences Industrial Strategy and navigated the organisation through the EU referendum period and outcome. Prior to joining the life sciences sector she worked in outsourcing and education, and before that political consultancy where she worked for a variety of public sector, NGO and private sector clients including the Met Office, Beating Bowel Cancer and VT Group.
John McTernan
John McTernan is a Senior Adviser at BCW. He is a highly regarded communicator and campaign strategist who works with political and corporate clients around the world. He has worked widely in government – advising Prime Ministers in seven countries, specialising in communications and policy development.
