Blanca Baez
I have 25 years of commercial experience and have held leadership roles across sundry industries. I am passionate about setting strategy and executing it with high-performing teams. I’ve specialised in the Pharma, Biotech & Healthcare sector for the past 17 years and have worked across the drug lifecycle and many therapeutic areas. My focus and expertise is in generating and executing strategies for new disruptive technologies to enter established markets or new niches with innovative and effective business models. My performance record includes establishing and increasing product competitiveness with disruptive technologies, identifying successful monetization strategies, accelerating revenue growth, negotiating deals to generate scale. In my most recent role, I’ve created, led and grown a new business unit through adapting data science technology and launching it to serve drug R&D and commercialization with in silico and artificial intelligence products and services. I’ve worked across geographies (mainly North America & Europe), under global, regional and local roles and with multi-cultural and multi-discipline teams. Beyond healthcare, I have experience in Consulting, FMCG, Government, Agri-Biotech and Education. I hold an MBA from London Business School, and further executive and scientific education from Wharton Business School and Harvard Medical School. I set up my own start up, DBounce - a Spotify for patient data in chronic diseases.
Silvia Cerolini
Silvia Cerolini is the Head of Innovation and Go-to-Market Transformation Specialty Care for Sanofi UKIE, bringing over 18 years of extensive experience in digital and omnichannel transformation within the consumer goods and pharmaceutical industries. Her expertise lies in leveraging data and technology to enhance healthcare applications. Silvia is deeply passionate about improving the experiences of patients and healthcare professionals (HCPs) through the strategic integration of data, digital solutions, and artificial intelligence. In her current role, Silvia spearheads the development of algorithms aimed at supporting patient diagnosis and the implementation of innovative digital health solutions. Beyond her corporate responsibilities, Silvia is the founder and CEO of Eyes on the Future, a UK based non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating research on Inherited Retinal Dystrophies (IRD), which cause progressive sight loss in children. Silvia's personal connection to the cause is profound, as her 10-year-old daughter has been diagnosed with an untreatable form of IRD, leading to gradual vision loss. Her efforts have resulted in multiple scientific publications and significant advancements in various therapeutic approaches, ranging from drug repurposing to gene therapy.
Aline Charpentier
Aline is the Head of Innovation for Bruntwood SciTech Melbourn Science Park, working on establishing it as a thriving ecosystem for TechBio companies. Aline’s experience covers a wide range of support to entrepreneurs in life sciences, having developed Bioentrepreneurs bootcamps across Europe, established the One Nucleus Virtual Innovation Centre for growing companies and now advising an early stage therapeutics fund, BioTranscript. Prior to joining the Cambridge ecosystem, she worked on technology transfer programmes for the scientific services of the French Embassy in the USA (Boston) and technology scouting at the CEA (Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique). She holds a MSc in Molecular Biology from the University of Toulouse and MBA from Grenoble School of Management.
Maud Einhorn
Maud Einhorn is a Partner Manager at Quantinuum, based in London. She holds a PhD in computational chemistry from University College London. Maud has worked at Quantinuum since January 2022, working closely with Quantinuum’s industrial collaborators exploring quantum computing use cases spanning a range of industries including pharmaceuticals, chemicals and finance.
Irina Gostimskaya
Dr Irina Gostimskaya is a biochemist and molecular biologist with experience in enzymology, protein production, engineering and directed evolution, cellular metabolism and genetic modifications. She has obtained her undergraduate degree and PhD from Moscow State University, followed by postdoc positions at the Universities of Manchester and Cambridge, UK. She is interested in applying genetic modification tools to the area of DNA computing as a co-founder of the DNA Ascendancy start-up, while also continuing her current work at the Chemistry Department of the University of Cambridge.
Matt Hall
Matt Hall is a Senior Scientific Officer in the Industry Partnerships team at EMBL's European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI). The team is responsible for overall strategy development, planning and partnership activities within EMBL-EBI. This includes development of research-related activities with industry, as well as delivery of EMBL-EBI’s Industry Programme. Matt has primary responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Industry Programme. Prior to joining EMBL-EBI, Matt had a 25 year career in the pharmaceutical industry as a bioinformatician, clinical scientist, and molecular biologist. Matt held various scientific management and leadership roles, primarily in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology departments at GSK. He gained experience as a Clinical Director in GSK's Africa NCD Open Lab. Matt started his career in industry with Parke-Davis/Pfizer in 1993. Matt has skills in bioinformatics, clinical research, molecular biology, project management, relationship building and working with external partners. He is a member of the Industrial Advisory Board, Faculty of Biological Sciences, University of Leeds. He gained his PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Leeds in 1991.
Ross King
Prof. Ross D. King has joint positions at the University of Cambridge, UK, and Chalmers Institute of Technology, Sweden, and is currently a Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute in London. He is one of the most experienced machine learning researchers in Europe. He originated the idea of a ‘Robot Scientist’: integrating AI and laboratory robotics to physically implement closed-loop scientific discovery. He is also a leader in the Nobel-Turing Challenge to build an AI system capable of winning a Nobel prize by 2050. His other core research interest is DNA computing. He developed the first nondeterministic universal Turing machine, and is now working on ‘DNA supremacy’: a DNA computer that can solve larger NP-complete problems than conventional or quantum computers.
Parminder Lally
Parminder helps clients to protect their technological innovations. Her in-house experience means she understands the challenges faced by tech companies, and she tailors her approach to meet their specific needs. Parminder specialises in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for computer-implemented inventions. She has built a substantial reputation working with high-growth start-ups, spin-outs and SMEs in Cambridge, and has in-house experience. Parminder’s work includes patenting Artificial Intelligence-based technologies, including AI used for image analysis and image classification, human-computer interactions and text-to-speech systems. She has also worked on a wide range of more general software-based patent applications, such as, for example, bioinformatics, sound recognition, security for ecommerce, Internet of Things networks, and natural language processing. Parminder joined the patent profession in 2011 after completing a Master’s degree in Physics at Imperial College London and a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Oxford. Parminder is a member of the Council which runs the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys (CIPA). As an active member of IP Inclusive, Parminder champions the group’s mission to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in the intellectual property profession.
Thomas Thron
Dr Thomas Thron has been at Wellcome Sanger since 2021, currently as Head of Supply Chain, also leading the Sanger operational AI community of practice and the Kaizen continuous improvement initiative. Prior to that, Thomas spent 15 years at Rolls-Royce Aerospace in various Supply Chain, Planning and improvement roles. Lean process improvement Black Belt.
Ola Wlodek
After completing a PhD in Biology and Biomedical Sciences from Cambridge University in 2013, Ola worked in the several companies within the Cambridge cluster before joining Constructive Bio as CEO in July 2022. She is a currently an executive MBA candidate with the Warwick Business School.
